Training Highlights

The training program, which took place over several intensive days, covered a wide range of crucial topics for Human Rights Defenders:

  • International Human Rights Law: Participants deepened their understanding of global human rights standards and mechanisms.
  • Digital Security: In an increasingly digital world, HRDs learned essential skills to protect themselves and their work online.
  • Advocacy Strategies: Effective methods for promoting human rights causes and influencing policy were shared and practiced.
  • Documentation Techniques: Participants honed their skills in accurately recording human rights violations for reporting and legal purposes.
  • Self-care and Security: Recognizing the often stressful nature of human rights work, the training included strategies for personal wellbeing and safety.

Impact and Significance

This second round of training by the Chapter Four Institute marks a continued commitment to building a robust network of skilled Human Rights Defenders across Africa. By bringing together participants from six diverse countries, the program fostered cross-border collaboration and knowledge sharing, essential for addressing human rights challenges that often transcend national boundaries.

The involvement of seasoned facilitator Njeri Kabeberi brought a

wealth of experience to the training. Njeri Kabeberi’s expertise in human rights advocacy and her deep understanding of the African context ensured that the training was both relevant and immediately applicable for participants.

Looking Forward

As these newly trained Human Rights Defenders return to their respective countries, they carry with them enhanced skills, expanded networks, and renewed motivation. The ripple effects of this training are expected to strengthen human rights movements across Kenya, DRC, Cameroon, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

The Chapter Four Institute remains committed to continuing these vital training programs, with plans for future sessions to reach even more countries and defenders across the African continent.
