This is an individual (Citizen) or group that holds certain rights guaranteed by
the constitution and can demand the protection or enforcement of those
rights. Improving quality of life can be through;
Active participation in Elections:
- Register to vote with the electoral body over 60 days before General Election.
- Research candidates and their policies for an informed decision.
- Participate peacefully in elections and reject violence or intimidation.
Hold leaders accountable:
- Keep track of government activities and officials to ascertain that promises
- are delivered.
- Participate in civic engagement forums such as town hall meetings,
- community dialogues, budgeting forums, petitions etc. to express concern and
- demand action.
- Report instances of corruption or abuse of power to the relevant authorities
Support Devolution:
- Learn about principles of devolution and the role of County Governments.
- Engage in local decision making processes and hold county officials
- accountable.
- Contribute to local development through volunteerism, community based
- initiatives or financial support.
Promote Human Rights:
- Learn about your rights and those of others.
- Defend the rights of the marginalized and those who may be discriminated.
- Report human rights violations to relevant authority or human rights
- organizations.
Promote Civic Education:
- Share knowledge about democracy, devolution and human rights with others;
- family, friends and community members.
- Participate in or support programs that increase civic awareness.
Promote Environmental Stewardship:
- Learn about environmental challenges and the importance of conservation.
- Participate in or support environmental conservation initiatives.
- Advocate for sustainability and environmental protection policies.
Promote peaceful coexistence
- Respect and protect the cultural diversity of Kenya.
- Seek peaceful means to resolve conflict, avoid violence.
- Foster tolerance and understanding amongst different groups.
