WHO WE ARE
Chapter Four Institute constitutional defender dedicated to
upholding the Kenyan Constitution 2010. Recognizing the immense
political, social, and economic struggles that led to its
implementation, the Institute strives to ensure that the Constitution’s
vision is realized.
By equipping communities, organizations, government officials, and
other stakeholders with the necessary skills, the Institute empowers
them to play their roles in preserving the heart of the Constitution.

We are dedicated to strengthening democracy by empowering citizens to engage actively in the democratic process. Our commitment to accountability and transparency ensures public officials are held responsible, fostering trust in our communities. We enhance oversight mechanisms to protect public interests and are devoted to preserving the principles of the 2010 Kenya Constitution, empowering all stakeholders to uphold its core values.

WHAT WE DO
CONSTITUTIONAL LITERACY
We train and sensitizes stakeholders on their identities as either claim holders or duty barriers.
This is an individual (Citizen) or group that holds certain rights guaranteed by the constitution and can demand the protection or enforcement of those rights. Improving quality of life can be through;
Active participation in Elections:
- Register to vote with the electoral body over 60 days before General Election.
- Research candidates and their policies for an informed decision.
- Participate peacefully in elections and reject violence or intimidation.
Hold leaders accountable:
- Keep track of government activities and officials to ascertain that promises are delivered.
- Participate in civic engagement forums such as town hall meetings, community dialogues, budgeting forums, petitions etc. to express concern and demand action.
- Report instances of corruption or abuse of power to the relevant authorities
An individual or entity that has a legal or moral obligation to uphold, respect, and protect the rights of individuals or groups as enshrined in the Constitution Social justice can be promoted through;
Upholding the Rule of Law:
- Ensure that laws are enforced impartially and consistently, without discrimination.
- Protect the rights of all citizens, including the right to life, freedom of expression, and equality before the law.
- Take measures to prevent and combat corruption at all levels of government.
Strengthening Democratic Institutions:
- Support the independence and effectiveness of institutions such as the judiciary, electoral commission, and the media.
- Create an environment that encourages political participation and competition.
- Adhere to the principle of the separation of powers between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government.
HOW WE WORK
Our commitment to providing high-quality, accessible human rights education has seen the development of a curriculum, currently undergoing a rigorous validation process, based on international human rights standards.
We offer comprehensive training sessions on various human rights topics. These interactive sessions delve into critical human rights principles, empowering participants to understand their rights and the legal frameworks that protect them.
Equipping participants with the confidence and skills to effectively advocate for human rights change to equips them hold individuals and authorities accountable and create positive change in their lives.
